Does the Road-Campfire is wind resistant ?

It can resist at light wind as per +/- 15 km/hr depend of wind direction and the position of the portable bonfire. It comes more and more resistant after some using because the tin side work as wind shield. If necessary, use an additional wind shield.

What can I do if a wick no longer wants to lit on?

Due to natural elements out of our control like wind, ground leveling etc, it can occur that the wick not evenly burned and cause this issue.

We have foreseen this situation by adding a pouch including some wicks extenders.

Follow carefully the indications in the pouch to ensure a good operation of the Road-Campfire.

Why is it suggested to wait until the wax is completely melt on the top before to extinguish?

To avoid « tunnel » effect!

By melting, the wax keep a memory and it will always keep the same melting pattern in the futur burning. That is why we suggest to wait until full top melting for the first use. In this way, we assure to get an evenly burning and increase the lasting of the Road-Campfire. You can refer to the « Reshape » page to solve this situation if it happen.

Can I use it less or more than 4 hours on time?

Yes of course!

Four hours is only a suggestion based on the following issues:

  • avoid the tunnel effect described above
  • allow an efficient lasting
  • avoid stones to sink in the bottom of the box
  • avoid wax to overheat

How many time is required to wax become solid again after extinguish?

Depend on ambiant temprature, it takes about 15 minutes before the top be lightly solid but the inside may still be liquid. As soon as the box is warm/cold, we can say that inside is almost solid too. Always be carefull before moving the tin to avoid burns and messes.

Do there is smoke?

Under optimal conditions, there is little or no smoke.

Like a conventional wood fire, when ignited there will be smoke during the period of time when the wick will create its melt bath. However, it is not an invasive smoke but rather very localized.

Then, depending on the presence or not of drafts that can make the flames waving, this will determine whether light smoke will persist or disappear almost completely.

The surface of the wax should never smoke. If so, the wax is too hot and must be turned off.  We have chosen a wax with a high degree of melting and flash point so that this situation does not occur in normal use as indicated on the warning label located under the container.

Are refills available?

Not at this moment yet.

We are working to find out the best way to produce refills. Follow us on social medias to be aware of the new stuff.

Why do not use soy wax?

The first reason is his low melting point who risk to melt quickly when the vehicule is parked in full sun and then cause mess. The soy wax takes also long time to become solid again so it is not convenient when we need to move. We have chosen a high melting point wax to minimise this kind of risk.

We only use Premium quality wax 100% raffined and « food contact » grade.

Is the wax perfumed?

No

We use no scent in the wax for 2 reasons:

  • The scent depend of the individual preferences. In order to satisfy as many people as possible, we opted not to add any
  • The fragrance is the most costing ingredient in a candle. To keep the sales price affordable, we chose to do not add any.

That being said, it is possible to place a special order for a Road-Campfire with the scent of your choice. Contact us for more information.

We use some drops of scented oil (campfire) on the lava rocks in the middle to remind us good souvenirs about nights around bonfire. However, this scent will disapear quickly.

Can we grill food?

We have no official answer to that question. Laboratory tests would be necessary to determine whether it is safe or not.

As it is usual in the doubt to abstain, while waiting for such tests, we do not advise grilling food there.
